Theatrical Wall Coverings

Good acoustical wall coverings are essential for performing arts theatres and multiplex cinemas.

  • To improve the quality of the sound

  • To limit the spillage of sound from one room to another

  • To control echo and reduce the reverberation in high traffic corridors

Sound Absorption

Sound absorption is defined, as “sound that strikes a material and is not reflected back”. All building materials have some acoustical properties in that they will all absorb, reflect or transmit sound striking them.

When a sound wave strikes an acoustical material the sound wave causes the fibers or particle makeup of the absorbing material to vibrate. The more fibrous a material is the better the absorption. The sound absorbing characteristics of acoustical materials vary significantly with frequency. In general low frequency sounds are very difficult to absorb because of their long wavelength.  For the vast majority of conventional acoustical materials, the material thickness has the greatest impact on the material's sound absorbing qualities. While the inherent composition of the acoustical material determines the material's acoustical performance, other factors can be brought to bear to improve or influence the acoustical performance.

Melfabco acoustical solutions:

  • Acoustical Fabrics
Melfabco offers a wide range of acoustical fabrics in a vast array of colors. They can be used to line and decorate walls or to cover and decorate acoustical panels.

  • Acoustical Panels
An aesthetically pleasing solution to reverberant noise problems. Also known as acoustical wall panels these panels are typically 1”- 2” thick with a square or contoured chemically hardened edge and wrapped with a fire retardant fabric. The panels are mechanically hung on walls or ceilings in patterns or groupings that add to the rooms’ overall architecture. Melfabco carries a large selection of Sound Seal Acoustical panels for different applications, and can guide you through the choice of fabric which best suits your sound absorption, decorating and practical needs.
